On May 13, the 3M factory in Shanghai was busy producing respirators for donation to the relief efforts.

3M and its employees have responded actively& timely to the appeal from the Red Cross Society of China, immediately responding with emergency relief measures. To support the rescue work and post-disaster epidemic prevention being carried out by medical personnel and rescue workers in the disaster areas, 3M has dispatched 120,000 N95 respirators from HK and 130,000 particulate respirators from its Caohejin factory in Shanghai. Other donation items such as bandages and disinfectants were prepared at the fastest speed. And total donation in cash from the Company & employees has been collected within 2 days which reached RMB 1.1 million. Meanwhile, all business lines are actively involved in assembling resources, donating reflective sheeting material for rescue vehicles'safety in the disaster area, and otherwise assisting Sichuan Mobile, Sichuan Utility and other relevant organizations to coordinate repair of communication networks, and helping recover power supplies.
On the afternoon of May 12th, once news of the tragedy in Wenchuan was being circulated, Kenneth Yu, managing director of China Region and 3M China, upon first learning of the situation, immediately contacted 3M's Hong Kong Managing Director, Jeffrey Xu and urgently arranged for the shipment of 120,000 N95 respirators, while at the same time directing 3M's CaoheJin Factory in Shanghai to work overtime to produce 130,000 particulate respirators. As the firm was using all its available resources to contribute what it could, it also called on its employees to donate money to the relief work. As of 12:00pm on May 16, 3M was already actively coordinating with the Shanghai Branch of the Red Cross Society of China. With the support of Jiefang Daily Media Group, the organizing committee of the Shanghai Relief Coordination Group, and China Eastern, the first batch of donated respirators was successfully shipped by an emergency China Eastern flight to the disaster area on Friday afternoon to provide relief to increasingly critical medical situation there.
At the same time, colleagues from 3M's Chengdu Office hastened to the stricken area, distributing thousands of respirators to victims and rescue personnel.

·AM May 13: Given the grim power and transportation situation in the areas worse-hit by the earthquake, and the absence of road lighting and traffic signs, through the Shanghai Branch of the Red Cross Society of China, 3M donated reflective stickers for 5000 large vehicles, to improve safe range-of-sight and night driving safety, thereby enhancing the efficient transportation of relief materials.
·4:00pm, May 13: 3M received an urgent phone call from the Logistics Center of Sichuan Mobile, seeking emergency supplies of optical cable connection boxes to repair cables and wires. 3M immediately organized additional supplied to be produced over the phone and contacted a freight company to send 1560 optical cable connection boxes in several batches to locations identified by the Sichuan Mobile Communications Corporation.
·2:00pm, May 14: 3M was also actively involved in relief efforts organized by the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration, donating medical safety products valued at RMB550,000 for the protection of medical staff in the disaster areas.
·10:30am, May 16: On behalf of 3M and all its employees, Hu Fen, general manager of 3M'sOperations Department passed on over RMB1.1 million in donations from all staff members to the Shanghai Branch of the Red Cross of China.

·12:00pm, May 16: Through support provided by Shanghai Evening News and the Shanghai Municipal Government, 3M dispatched 250,000 respirators to Pudong International Airport for air-freighting to Chengdu at 5:00pm the same day.
·PM, May 16, 3M has provided personal healthcare kits for Journalists in Shanghai, Guanghou & Beijing, who went or will go to front-line for on-site reporting.
When China was struck by SARS, 3M sent 500,000 medical-grade N95 respirators from around the world, donating them to areas such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, where the situation of the epidemic was critical.
